Description
The Greina high plateau at 2200 meters above sea level is a barren mountain landscape with widely branching watercourses - what a blessing that the power plant efforts of the 20th century failed!
Day 1: We start our route in Runcahez and hike, partly through forest and alongside the brook, into the valley. Soon the path begins to climb, and before it becomes really steep, we take a break at the beautiful brook landscape with waterfalls and pools. Then we take the hairpin bends under our hiking boots until we reach the ridge of Crest La Greina. We need to be a bit sure-footed, but there are ropes mounted at times to hold onto. Soon we see the Terri hut and look back into the valley at our entire ascent route with Tödi in the background.
Day 2: We circle the Muot la Greina to reach the lower, flat part of the plateau with the meandering brook, gravel banks, and moist meadows. The further we come towards Crap la Crusch, the more undulating the landscape becomes. In the hollows, water collects and forms small lakes, some framed by cotton grass. Gentian, lousewort, and countless other alpine flowers adorn the meadows.
After the stone with the cross, the "Crap la Crusch", we are in the canton of Ticino. We hike southwards along the edge of a large wetland. Later, we add a stone man colony with a unique creation.
From the Capanna Motterascio, we have a magnificent view into the Valle Garzora and onto Lake Luzzone. The Pizzo Casinello and the Pizzo Cassimoi with its eternal snow are the most striking peaks in the mountain panorama.
The descent from the hut leads partly over alpine pastures, later through a sparse larch forest. A final highlight is the path along the lake, which forms a turquoise fjord in the rear part. From the Alpe Garzott, we hike on a forest road to the reservoir. We just have to get through the about 800 meters long tunnel to the dam, but it is lit.
Now we have to catch the last bus from Ghirone to Olivone to still have a connection back over the Lukmanier pass to Disentis and Sumvitg. (4:14 pm) See timetable!
