249 Sedrun loop trail
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
Easy gliding sections alternate with more demanding parts; there are challenging ascents and fast descents. From the start at the community center, the trail first leads below the villages of Sedrun and Rueras. In Dieni, the ruins of Putnengia Castle are passed. This was probably built in the 13th century by the lords of Pontaningen and was inhabited for over 200 years.
Several loops later, the lowest point of the trail is reached, and you glide along the Rhine – sometimes through the forest and then again over open fields. After the power plant, where for over 20 years the construction site of the NEAT project was located, the area was renaturalized. It is now accessible on cross-country skis. The gently ascending section back to Sedrun is also thanks to NEAT: the temporary construction site access road for the railway remained and is part of the trail in winter.
If all loops are included, a full roundtrip amounts to about 15 kilometers of trail. However, this can be shortened or extended at various points as desired. Leisurely cross-country skiers prefer to loop mostly in the valley floor starting at the power plant.
Sedrun night trail: Tuesday, Friday & Saturday open from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
