Description
From the year-round inhabited village of Cavardiras we hike through shady forests and past summer farms uphill.
The hiking trail leads along the upper edge of the Bova Gronda and it is very impressive to look down from here. A massive rockslide caused great devastation in 1689. It destroyed the hamlets Brulf and Valentin and 22 fatalities were recorded. For three hours the rockslide dammed the Rhine; fortunately, there was no flood wave.
Soon the forest thins and we continue hiking through alpine rose bushes until we arrive at the rounded summit of Alp Soliva. The view is fantastic, the glaciers of Oberalpstock and Tödi sparkle. The meadows are covered with flowers, it is quiet and peaceful, only occasionally can we hear the bells of grazing cows.
Downhill we walk past Alp Soliva, then through a shady forest, and soon we see the houses of Soliva. From Curaglia the post bus takes us back to Disentis.
