Gotthard Crystal Trek: Stage 2
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
The second stage of the Gotthard Crystal Trek begins at the Gotthard Pass. At first, it runs parallel to the road to the Sella Reservoir. From there, the path climbs steeply, first on an old military road and then on a narrow, little-used hiking trail. After two hours, you reach a lonely pass, overshadowed by the Gloggentürmli. The path continues downhill before the next pass comes into view. The stage runs mostly on a blue-white alpine hiking trail, which requires attention in places. Shortly before the pass crossing, you reach the high plateau "Im Vorderen Loch," where three small mountain lakes above 2,600 meters invite you. Then it continues uphill to the "Gfallenenlücke," with views of the Gemsstock station and the highest point of the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area. The descent leads to the Vermigel hut at 2,000 meters, the destination for the day.
