Description

The scenic ascent to the Maighelshütte (2310 m above sea level) in the border region of Graubünden and Uri leads from the Oberalp Pass (2046 m above sea level) on a moderate ascent through the Val Maighels to Lake Urlaun.

The ascent begins at the Oberalp Pass and leads from near the road up to an altitude of approx. 1980 m above sea level. The route is then well signposted and marked in the direction of Maighelshütte/Lai da Tuma, initially flat, then slightly ascending along the eastern flank of the Pazolastock until you cross the Rhine below the Lai da Tuma.

You soon reach Lake Urlaun (Lai Urlaun) and, after a short ascent, the Maighelshütte (2310 m above sea level) on the flank of Piz Cavradi. From the hut you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Maighels glacier and Piz Ravetsch. The hut is also an ideal starting point for hikes lasting several days in the direction of Ticino, to Capanna Cadlimo and Val Piora or to Vermigelhütte and Andermatt.
