Description

The gentle ascent from Andermatt to the pass height at 2046 m above sea level offers magnificent views of the entire Ursern Valley and the Gemsstock. The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway line also runs directly over the pass height. The panoramic train "Glacier Express" reaches its highest point here on the journey from St. Moritz to Zermatt.

The turquoise blue Oberalp Lake at the pass invites you to linger. Here stands the only and highest lighthouse in the Alps. The replica symbolizes the source of the Rhine, which originates nearby. The original stands at the mouth of the Rhine near Rotterdam.

On the Graubünden side, the road leads down a little more winding past the small village of Tschamut, then continues over Sedrun to Disentis. Here you enter a new language region. In the Surselva, Romansh is mainly spoken. There are also many culinary delicacies to discover.
