Description
From Amsteg or Intschi, hikers can reach the Arni recreational area by gondola.
The well-marked hiking trail first runs along the picturesque Arnisee. At the western shore of the lake, near a material cableway, the hut path begins. This path is quite steep with loops and switchbacks through the shady green forest. At 1778 m above sea level, the flatter section with the Riedboden begins, a fascinating but also protected landscape. Mountain pines, reed grass, and moor ponds line the path. The path then continues up another slope among blueberry bushes to Grossgand with its hidden small lakes. It is not far to the hiking goal; the route swings slightly to the west and leads, alongside a larger small lake, up to the Sunniggrätli hut (1978 m above sea level). The summit cross on the Sunnig Grat (2033 m above sea level) is 15 minutes from the hut, where you are rewarded with an incomparable view of the Urner Reuss valley and Lake Uri.
