Description
With the closure and dismantling of the former Winterhorn ski resort in Hospental, attractive slopes for ski touring enthusiasts have emerged here. The ascent begins shortly after the village of Hospental, heading toward the Gotthard Pass Road, which is closed in winter.
After a few curves on the snow-covered pass road, the route branches off to the right toward Winterhorn. The ascent is not very steep and leads over gentle slopes, past the former lift stations, and over several ridges to the summit ridge. This makes the tour well-suited for beginners as well.
A ski storage area is set up about 80 meters below the summit. The final section is covered on foot. Due to wind and possible icy conditions, crampons are recommended for this part.
For the descent, you can take the same route back to Hospental. Alternatively, depending on conditions, a descent to Realp is also possible.
