Fireplace Schöllenen

Description

If you want to experience the mysterious Schöllenen Gorge and the myth of the Gotthard region up close, you should take the hike from Göschenen to Andermatt (or vice versa) in summer. The vertical rock faces and the rushing Reuss river offer impressive views. With a little luck, you may spot chamois and deer on the rocky outcrops in the Schöllenen.

The Schöllenen fire pit, also known as Geissenplatz, is located between Göschenen and Andermatt and invites visitors to linger and marvel. It was built between 2014 and 2019 as part of the comprehensive renovation of the Schöllenenstrasse road by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). In collaboration with the municipality of Andermatt, a rest area was created here dedicated to all those who participated in this major project.
