Description
We start our route downhill on natural roads and hiking trails. The gentle up and down is ideal for warming up. Upon reaching the cantonal road, we ride through the impressive "Punt Gronda", built in the mid-19th century from 450 tree trunks.
From now on, no more chatting. The newly constructed drive road in Val Russein is quite steep, and only at the reservoir can we relax a bit. The path leads deep into the valley over several kilometers, always along the wild mountain stream until our destination, the "Alp Russein". On the return, we must not miss the turnoff to Clavadi. The trail goes uphill on a singletrail and pushing the bike is necessary.
At the height of Clavadi, we reach a forest road again and continue uphill through Uaul Crap Ner and Uaul dils Brens to the end of Val Murtès. Luckily, we filled our water bottles in time because there are no water points along the way. Only in Sogn Benedetg can we refresh ourselves at the village fountain, after which we visit the extraordinary chapel by Peter Zumthor.
The descent to Cumpadials is refreshing, but there are still two uphill sections to master before reaching Disentis.
