Gotthard Crystal Trek: Stage 5
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
On the fifth day of the Gotthard Crystal Trek, the shortest stage initially leads uphill behind the Etzlihütte, with an impressive view of the Witenalpstock and Oberalpstock. After about an hour, you reach the highlight of the day at 2,300 meters: the Spillauisee. If you wish, you can leave the main route and descend to the lake – the extra effort is worth it. In the middle of the lake lies a large rock that can be reached when the water level is low. After the lake, the route continues to the Pörtlilücke, from where you enjoy a breathtaking view in both directions. The descent to the Treschhütte is short but challenging, with over 1,000 meters of elevation loss and some rock steps. When it rains, these are very slippery and therefore additionally secured with chains. After less than four hours of hiking, you reach the Treschhütte, the lowest SAC hut in the Alps.
