Description
From Sedrun we hike to Cavorgia, a small, permanently inhabited village, and further through a shady forest to the hill Stagias, a popular viewpoint with a well-equipped fireplace. We admire the new building of the Academia Vivian, whose rooms can be booked for various events. Then we turn southwards and our next destination is the suspension bridge spanning the Val Mutschnengia with a length of 100 meters. Made by the forestry trainees of the canton of Graubünden and Liechtenstein, it was ceremoniously inaugurated in 2011. A round trip is a must before we sit on the terrace of Hotel Cuntera and enjoy a refreshment. Afterwards, we leave the sunburned houses of Mutschnengia behind and a hiking trail leads us onto a section of the old Lukmanier Pass route. Before a path could be blasted out of the rocks in the Rein da Medel gorge thanks to dynamite, the mule track led over Mompé Medel. At the chapel S. Valentin begins the quite steep descent down to the Rhine. We cross the stream on a bridge whose foundation dates back to Roman times, afterwards it goes up the same height on the other side to the chapel Sontga Gada. Remarkable inside the chapel are the frescoes that were created in the mid-15th century. A pretty path lined with old stone walls concludes the hike. From the Acla da Fontauna train stop, the train takes you back to Sedrun.
